Sports News - Suarez Will Earn 23 Million In Liverpool

The deal is sealed! Luis Suarez is leaving Ajax for Liverpool with immediate effect. Suarez signs a contract for five and a half year and he gets 23 million euros for it. It took over two weeks of though negotiations between Liverpool and Ajax to make it all happen for Suarez so the Dutch newspaper de Telegraaf reported. Suarez will be in Amsterdam today to say goodbye to his former colleagues and told the press that he was relieved about the outcome of the negotiations. Luis Suarez will earn 80,000 euros a week and this puts him in the top 3 of most earning players in the Premier League. Steven Gerrard tops the list with 130,000 euros a week and the second position is for Fernando Torres who earns 120,000 euros a week. Joe Cole and Jamie Carragher also earn 80,000 euros a week. Luis Suarez will get nearly 4,2 million gross a year until the summer of 2015 and the contract is initially for 4.5 years but can be extended for another year if Liverpool wants this. Players cannot be signed up for longer than five years, but these rules are by-passed with several options in the contracts which allow clubs to extend it when massive investments have to be done. The arrival in Liverpool of Suarez was a bit overshadowed by the news around the transfer of Fernando Torres from Liverpool to Chelsea. The owner of Chelsea, Roman Abramovich has paid almost 50 million euros for Torres. Liverpool rejected earlier offers from Chelsea, but the final offer was to good to refuse so Torres leaves Liverpool. Fernando Torres scored 65 goals in 91 matches and will be hard to replace. Liverpool is trying to get Nicolas Anelka into the team to fill up the striker’s gap. I wonder if Suarez is able to meet the expectations that are raised with the outcome of his contract in Liverpool. He was a reasonable player in the Dutch competition, but the Premier League is a level higher. Let’s hope he succeeds.
